Why is BoxSync still being patched when it was discontinued in 2023?? BoxDrive is the only Mac app available directly form the Box website. This is strange!

Having now tested the new Box Drive and Box Tools replacement for Box Sync, I've found it to be a CATASTROPHE. Good luck restoring/downloading from their crap servers. This fiasco reminds me of the nightmare that is Backblaze, whose restore is also a CATASTROPHE. - - Therefore! I'm dumping Box forever, and good riddance to foolish incompetents. - - Proton Drive has provided me we vast cloud space at a cheap price thanks to me being an early adopter of Proton VPN and their subsequent added premium services. Proton Drive actually works. So do several other cloud services. Box.net is dead in the water IMHO. 😵👻[Expletives withheld]

OH AND... This might help. The current version of Box Drive, aka Box.app is v2.36.112. The current version of Box Tools is v4.24.0. - - And WHERE do you access your Box cloud files? In the FINDER, on the left, under LOCATIONS. Click on it and Box will fill up a Finder window with a list of your files. This is where you compare the ARCHIVE Box made with what's online. Fix any discrepancies. - - IF what you have stored in Box must be accessible when you're OFF LINE, then I advise you COPY your Box Drive back onto your Mac in a safe and easily accessible location. Don't use that location for new files or file changes!! Use it as a BACKUP of what's on Box. --> As a BACKUP FANATIC, I highly advise this backup step in any case. Files on computers DIE. Computers DIE. Cloud services DIE. Cloud services become hacked or inaccessible via DDOS (Distributed Denial of Service) attacks. So make a LOCAL, as well as OFFLINE (cloud is an example) BACKUP of EVERYTHING! It's the #1 Rule of Computing. Not Kidding. Just do it. You'll thank me. You're welcome. 😄

Box Sync is now EOL (End Of Life), replaced by Box Drive. It's ARM compatible. And also Box has released Box Tools. You can download both at: https://www.box.com/resources/downloads - - [Gee, thanks for telling anyone, Box! I only found out about this because Box Sync was the last 3rd party software that was still Intel only. Therefore, I visited the website to find out why. *sigh*] - - So what are these new apps? (1) Box Drive: "Access all your Box files directly from your desktop, without taking up much hard drive space. Box Drive is natively integrated into Mac Finder, making it easy to share and collaborate on files." -> When you install Box Drive, it will uninstall Box Sync and replace it as merely "Box.app". It compares your now old and useless Box folder with what is synced online. What is already synced is then trashed from your hard drive. You now access everything online via Finder integration with the Box Drive, which is of course a cloud drive. Box Drive then tossed you a window that says in effect: "You freed up [BlahBlah] GB on your hard disk! Please review the remaining Box Sync content in your "Archived - Box Sync" folder and either complete the upload through Box Drive or delete it." This is important. (2) Box Tools: "Create and edit any file type, including Office, CAD, and Photoshop, directly from your web browser. Use the default application installed on your computer, knowing your files are automatically saved to Box." - - When you install Box Tools you'll see two apps installed. (a) Box Edit. A notification will pop up to let you know. You'll wonder WHERE the thing was installed. It's buried in this folder: ~/Library/Application Support/Box/Box Edit/ (b) Box Local Cam Server. So WHERE was that thing installed? Same place as Box Edit. - - All this takes adjustment and getting used to. Take Your Time Learning It. Go to Box.net's Support for 'Getting Started' instructions. The site also offers BoxBot, which helps direct you to tech support and other information. - - Overall, Box is focusing on business/enterprise plans. But their basic free user plan continues. If I personally run into any walls, bugs, BS, etc. with the new system, I'll post here at MU. - - Let other Box users know what's going on! Box apparently isn't. Again: Gee, thanks Box. 🤐😠🖕
